A trip to the US is fun for the entire family. It is a vast country with different attractions that can please everyone. The US is host to millions of visitors each year, with summer being the peak tourist season. A great vacation can be ruined if you do not follow some basic rules and procedures.

There are several entry requirements and procedures that must be followed before a visitor can be admitted into the US. All the necessary documents must be presented to the immigration official at the port of entry. A Customs and Border protection declaration form must be filled out. The visitor must provide a US address where they will be staying.

Make sure you have a valid visa and a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay in the US. Fingerprint scans and a digital photograph will be taken for most visitors. You will also have to tell the officer the reason for your visit and how long you plan on staying.

Make sure you find out what can and cannot be brought into the US. There are restrictions on fruits, vegetables, poultry, plants and hazardous substances. Fill the customs form to declare any items on the restricted list. You may have to discard items not allowed.

You can bring and take out any amount of foreign or US currency from the US. If you plan on bringing more than the equivalent of 10,000 dollars you must report it on the Customs form. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere and are the preferred choice of payment. Call your credit card company before you leave and inform them about your travel plans. Also find out about any fees and extra charges for transactions made abroad.

Lack of socialized care means you are responsible for paying for any medical treatments you may need. They can be extremely expensive. It is imperative that you buy medical insurance that offers adequate coverage during your trip. You can dial 911 if you are suffering a life threatening emergency.
