For many years, motorcycles have become the primary means of transportation with in many countries. Because of their price and reliability in comparison to larger vehicles, motorcycle usage is very high in those nations with young or underdeveloped economies. But for many motorcycle riders, their ownership goes beyond merely needing a well built yet inexpensive vehicle. These rider and their gear - their specialized clothing, helmets and motorcycle helmet bags - represent the most enthusiastic of motorcycle owners. Simply put: for many riders, motorcycle ownership and riding is a way of life!
Because of its long history, the motorcycle and its riders have many subgroups and mythologies associated with it. A group of riders on an assortment of motorcycles and their accompanying helmets, helmet bags and regalia represent to many the epitome of ‘coolness.’ Each type of rider is represented clearly in their own motorcycle subculture. Caf riders on their speedy bikes zip by on motorcycles carrying specialized equipment - all focused on speed. Mod racers can easily be seen from a distance because of their colorful bikes and associated gear. Rockers can ride their bikes with helmets, motorcycle helmet bags and jackets adorned with their favorite club or group. Every subculture in motorcycling has a trait that makes it distinctive and celebrates its own unique history.
Even motorcycle social groups and organizations take on distinct colors of their own. Some go for specific motorcycle brands or makes, like the Harley groups, with Harley bikes, helmets, motorcycle helmet bags, jackets, vests, boots, and down to key chains all strictly Harley! BMW MOA members will have nothing but BMW motorcycles, helmets, helmet bags, protective gear, and accessories. These groups band together for totally different reasons, some outrageous, some social and for a cause, some even anti-social. Some groups raise monies for charitable causes. Others are in it for the thrill of riding and racing motorcycles alone.
Then again, there are the more organized and more influential groups. Motorcyclists have been known to group themselves to be able to build a force to be reckoned with, politically and socially. Lobbying for more biker-friendly legislation on traffic, safety, manufacture, and development, these groups bring with them their own insignias and trademarks of helmets, helmet bags, jackets, and all other gears and accessories. For greater clout, motorcycle groups form federations and confederations, moving from simple traveling bands to politically lobbying forces later on. Motorcycle clubs range in purpose of formation from mere touring and riding, to amateur racing, to professional on- and off-road racing, extreme sports, and even stunt-riding. Every bet is as good as anybody else’s to say each club sports a different range of motorcycles, helmets, motorcycle helmet bags, jackets, gloves, key chains, boots, and motorcycle accessories. There are also outlawed motorcycle groups though they remain in the minority; some just go for illegal races, or deliberate traffic violations and other petty misdemeanors.
The lady bikers will not be left behind, too, as they form their own motorcycling lifestyles and subcultures, bringing with them their own feminine types of helmets, helmet bags, more shapely jackets, sexier pants and boots, and the range of motorcycle accessories that they wanted feminized. Whether these groups are close-knit or loosely organized, the kind of subculture they bring that is unique to the motorcycle riding enthusiasts will always liven up the mystery and myth behind the motorcycles and their riders.
