Some of the most common indoor bugs we see anywhere in the world are flies, spiders, fleas and beetles. No-one likes to see a bug in the house, so most people will go to almost any extremes to eradicate these common indoor bugs. The less common indoor bugs may be woodlice, earwigs, scorpions and millipedes or centipedes, although they are not less unwelcome.

No matter where you are in the world, it can be very hard to keep these common indoor bugs outside, unless you go to the extremes of keeping all your windows and doors closed at all times, which is quite impossible. I now stay in Thailand and I know for sure that this is not possible.

So, just what can you do about it? Well, let’s deal with all the flying bugs first, as of all the common indoor bugs, I think they are the most obnoxious indoor bug. They are very annoying, buzzing around your head and mosquitoes and other flies can produce painful sores and besides that, all flies spread disease. I hate to see them strutting about on food, knowing that they have probably just come off some dog’s muck somewhere and now they are spitting on my food to taste it with their stinking feet!

My first line of defence is fine-mesh door and widow screens. They are not dear and can be fitted retrospectively to any window. My window meshes slide, so they will cover only one half of the window at a any one time, but I do not think that’s a problem. You can still create cross-winds, by opening two or more windows at opposite sides of a room. I like to see the flies on the mesh struggling to get in by day and the mosquitoes doing the same by night. At night, it is wise to switch on as little light indoors as possible in order not to attract these common indoor bugs.

My second line of defence is natural predators - lizards, like Geckos (Jin Jok, in Thai). Some people don’t like them in the house either. I can’t say I’m all that keen on them indoors myself, but they are hard to keep out and they do consume hundreds, if not thousands, of indoor bugs every day. I like to see them lying in wait on the outside of the mesh, ready to pounce on any bug trying to struggle its way through the wires.

My third line of defence is a handheld bug zapper. You know, the electric, handheld bug zapper that looks like a toy tennis racquet. The come in two forms: battery and rechargeable kinds. They are brilliant at catching and annihilating any flying indoor bug. The inset literally explodes and vaporizes on contact with the fully-charged wires of the indoor bug zapper. If you haven’t tried using one, you really ought to. They are most satisfying. These three defences keep our house pretty much free of flies.

The creeping common indoor bugs are less of a problem really. Door screens on self-closers will keep 95% of them out and the Geckos will help too. Spiders can get in pretty easily, but then, I don’t mind them too much as long as they keep out of my way, as they eat other insects too. They are on our side to be honest. However, for those who can not bear to catch them and throw them outside, the handheld indoor bug zapper works a treat on spiders too.

Fleas can sometimes be a problem, if you have cats or dogs, but then if you wash or dust the animal once a month, you should be able to keep these common indoor bugs under control fairly easily. However, there are two final measures that we use. Once a week, before we go out for the day, we spray every room with fly killer and every six-months we spray any rugs or carpets with an insect killer containing permethrin, which will survive washing and vacuuming for that long without losing its ability to kill common indoor bugs on contact. If you stick with these methods, you should be able to keep your home or office quite free of the most common indoor bugs and any less common indoor bug too.

“For girls who go plump in the night” is the rather strange title of an album by 1970’s rock band Caravan, which is not the kind of thing you would expect an insurance man to know, even if he does actually own one, (a caravan I mean!) An insurance man in a caravan is probably not that unusual but an insurance man in a caravan listening to Caravan? Surely not!

I can’t remember exactly what got me thinking about this, but I think it’s to do with when I was looking over some photos from last year’s Glastonbury festival the other day and I noticed the sheer amount of caravans there in one outfit or another. Of course, being an insurance man, I immediately began thinking about the cover that these caravans may or may not have had and whether or not the underwriters knew exactly what they were being used for.

Caravans were being used for almost everything you can think of that needs a sturdy shelter, i.e. people were living in them, some were being used as resting places for tired musicians, some were being used for paid showers and some were being used shops by refreshment vendors, and I still mean proper caravans, not mobile catering units.

In the camping areas there were caravans being used as shelter from the rain for the security staff, as meeting points for lost festival goers and as weekend homes for ageing rockers who either could no longer handle the rough nights of tent camping, or who just happened be fellow caravan fans.

Of course, the musicians themselves are among the biggest users of caravans at music festivals, they usually use the huge ones with extra wheels on the front for steering and they use them for changing in, preparing for the show in, and then use them to indulge in general after-show rock-star behaviour which I think is probably best left to the imagination! I’m not sure if Caravan ever used one, I think that would just be too good to be true! Caravan in a caravan listening to their debut album (which was called, as you may have guessed, “Caravan”). Or even better, if they had arranged a convoy with some friends, a caravan of caravans including a caravan with Caravan in it listening to Caravan!

Anyway as I said, I started thinking about whether or not they had the correct insurance cover and let’s face it, they probably didn’t did they? If you’re thinking about taking your caravan along to a festival this year it’s worth thinking about proper insurance. A caravan can get damaged by careless fellow festival goers, it can slide off of its own accord into the mud, they can get flooded inside, catch fire, get blown away and, well, almost anything can happen. Luckily you can insure your caravan against most things - even collisions with uninsured caravans being used as tea shops!

After your wedding day, your honeymoon is one of the most memorable times of your life and so must certainly count as one of best vacations you will ever take. It is the beginning of a new life with the person you love. As such it is a good reason to visit somewhere you have always wanted to go, somewhere really special.

One of the most popular places for people to go to on a honeymoon is St Croix, The US Virgin Islands, in the Caribbean.

The Caribbean is the first choice for many newly weds for various reasons: the romance, the people are happy and welcoming, the sand, sea and sunshine, the food and the music. St Croix in the US Virgin Islands is one of the favourite destinations in the Caribbean islands.

St Croix has beautiful beaches and that perfect tropical climate that is so appropriate for a wonderful honeymoon. The hotels and the island’s inhabitants love to take care of newly weds and go out of their way to make sure that the honeymooners have the time of their lives - a holiday that they will remember fondly for ever.

Expense is always a consideration when one is planning a honeymoon in the Caribbean, but you do not have not be too concerned on that front. A honeymoon on St Croix need not be costly and as it is only 1,300 miles from the USA, so travel costs and travel time are low.

You will not have trouble finding somewhere on the island to suit your desires. However, St Croix is a popular honeymoon destination, especially for Americans, so it is worth booking your honeymoon holiday as early as possible in order to obtain the reservation that you want.

There are three main kinds of places to stay: a hotel, a vacation rental or a holiday home. The difference between a vacation rental and a holiday home is that the former is a condo or villa purpose built for holiday makers, whereas the holiday home is actually somebody’s house who has let it out for a short period.

When scheduling your honeymoon, you should think about when you will leave. It was traditional to leave for the honeymoon after a short reception on the day of the wedding, but many couples postpone their departure date nowadays. Over the last few decades, it has become the standard to hold an extensive reception hours after the wedding, often at night. This will usually go on until midnight or later, which makes leaving for foreign climes quite difficult. A hangover is not a good travelling companion either.

Therefore, you may want to put your going away date off until two days after the wedding, although I think that flying out on the wedding day is still the best idea. If you choose a holiday home or a vacation rental on St Croix, you will need to make all your own arrangements for getting to the airport, flying to St Croix and getting a taxi from the airport to your place of stay, so I recommend that for this, your first visit to this beautiful island, you take a package holiday, which will take care of you from your local airport to your hotel on St Croix and back again.

In the Eighteenth Century, they found dishes, saws, knives, flints, a scraper, a prehistoric horn celt with strange markings, a spokeshave and some arrowheads from the Neolithic Period. These artifacts are safely ensconced in the Museum of Wales in Cardiff, but unfortunately, no one at the time thought the find significant enough to warrant a dig and now there are houses on it.

An ancient Roman kitchen, complete with remains and utensils underwent a similar fate. In 1533, Leland was made the Kings Antiquary and was directed to make a tour of all places where records were held. This took him nine years and his description of the island was:

“It is about a mile in circumference and has good corn, grass and some wood, and there is no dwelling on the Island, but in the midst of it is a fair little Chapel of St. Baruch which is visited by many pilgrims. It took the name Barri from this holy man who was buried there and whose remains are yet on the Island”. (The Welsh name for Barry is Y Barri).

Viking raiders attacked the south Wales coastline, often taking hostages from monasteries in the 10th. Century, but they did not try to settle in the area. The island was long known as the Saints Retreat or the Island of Saints. Later, in the early 16th. Century, the island was used by smugglers and pirates and was nicknamed the Smugglers Fortress. This coincided with the increase in shipping to and from Bristol, Britain’s second biggest port at the time.

The island soon became the centre for smuggling and piracy in the Bristol Channel. In 1784, Barry Island became known as ‘The Fortress of Knight’. Kight was the most frequent and feared pirate in the channel but people were too afraid to speak out against him. He was also a local celebrity. His ship was armed and named ‘John O’ Combe’. The navy eventually routed him and he moved down to Lundy Island, which he also turned into a fortress. However, he and his successor, Arthur, went back to Barry so often that Customs requested the government to send a cutter to Penarth and 60 soldiers to Barry on permanent duty.

Rhoose was infamous for its wreckers and George II sent troops to break up the smugglers and wreckers. They landed at Aberthaw “the Rhoose men’s favourite landing zone, from where they could easily transport the contraband along Port Road to Cardiff, the main market for such things”. Several large caves were filled in while constructing the present day docks and it is likely that they were used by the pirates until they were moved on in about 1850.

Parents have you ever thought about Summer Camp? Not quite sure how to start the search? Now, it is easy! A camp tailored to the needs of of children who are going for the first time has been created. Swift Nature Camp’s directors, Jeff and Lonnie Lorenz, After listening for years to parents and children, have created a special 12 day program specific to meet the needs of all new campers and their parents.

This Nature Summer Campsis a twelve-day First Timer’s Program offered at the Swift Nature Camp facilities near Minong, Wisconsin. The program utilizes Swift Camp’s highly trained staff at a ratio of two staff members for every cabin of eight new campers. The first time at summer camp will quite possibly be a child’s first extended time away from home. The program acknowledges this by making sure that every new camper will find a staff member on hand at all times. First time campers need to feel special, and the first priority of this program is to foster the sense that camp is there for them and exists for their benefit.

Prior to each camper’s arrival, the staff studies the informational packet for that person. They learn about each child and gain awareness of specific individual needs. If any camper has medical circumstances or special needs these will discussed by the staff in confidence with the camp nurse. By the time a child arrives at camp, the staff will feel as if they already know that new camper. This preparation is immediately beneficial to the first-time camper from the moment he or she steps off the bus and is warmly and personally greeted.

The first day of Discovery Camp is Orientation Day. New campers get a complete tour of Swift Nature Camp, including a visit to the Health Center, the Mail Box, and every activity area. Every activity is introduced with a discussion about the importance of safety and the basic safety information for that activity.

Im order to promote caring, nurturing friendships, the first day campers write a Respect List for all to agree to and sign and select a story that each night will be their bedtime story. The cabin is the place where community begins. First time campers are gently brought into a sense of connection and community with others who begin on equal footing. We even introduce our helping hand program where camper help each other anonymously.

At Discovery Camp,First Time Campers are introduced to Swift Camp’s well rounded noncompetitive variety of camp activities. Each morning a cabin’s campers are invited to instruction at two activity areas. These activities include Swimming, Canoeing, Nature Center, Arts and Crafts, Archery, and more. The new campers are encouraged to try new and different activities, giving each of them the opportunity to discover and explore what activities he or she might enjoy and eventually excel in. In the afternoon, campers learn how to make their own choices from the activity board, making their own decisions about which activity to pursue that day.

Swift Nature Camp aims to encourage each child to learn independence in a safe, age appropriate environment. The twelve day first-timer program is set up to run the optimum length of time for a first time camper to leave homesickness behind and gain a comfortable sense of autonomy. For many of these campers the greatest first lesson camp teaches them is that they can leave home, return days later and find out that very few things will have changed, especially their parents’ love for them.

The directors of Swift Nature Camp think it’s important that parents feel confident their child’s first time away from home is in a safe, nurturing and secure environment. As a part of the Discovery Camp’s first timer program, parents are encouraged to visit and call about the progress of their child.

A list of references is readily available for those parents who would like to find out if this is the Best first-timer camp for their child. Discovery Camp, a special program for the first time summer camp experience,Learn more about this special place for your child!

by Liam McGulliver Fletcher

Traveling abroad among countries a part of the European Union which includes a large number of countries from Belgium, to Ireland, to Sweden (check which countries are included in the EU when traveling abroad) has its temptations and perks in the shopping arena, such as purchasing from duty-free shops, or tax-free merchants within European Union (EU) airports.

Taxes can be added onto a good through a number of ways and names including consumption, sales, or the standard EU value added tax (VAT). Traveling abroad in the EU, customers will find the VAT a standard addition to any purchased goods. The ability to refund VAT, however, is a perk not held by member countries of the EU, unless the items are meant to be shipped to non - EU countries.

The value added tax or EU-VAT, encompasses all member countries of the union and so becomes an issue for non-EU dwelling residents traveling abroad within the European Union. Members of the EU are unable to take advantage of a VAT refund unless the items are purchased to be sent outside of the EU.

Going through the paperwork process of refunding EU-VAT is not one that has to be accomplished alone. There are a number of reputable companies with the technical experience and established retail relationships to do the work for you.

A number of companies are available for utilization in making the refunded of EU-VAT a simple transaction requiring only that the consumer collect and save all receipts on good purchased in EU countries and visit customs before leaving the EU to collect an export validation stamp.

Minus the purchase of books and clothes for children, which are exempt for VAT, any minute item cannot be claimed in search of a VAT-refund. Minimum purchase requirements must be met to obtain a proper refund and each EU country has its own VAT-refund percentage.

For example, Premier Tax Free has relationships with over 70,000 worldwide retailers. Choose which company you want to handle your refund wisely and you can make tax free shopping for non-EU residents an easy transaction.

Summer Camp in Minnesota means more than the pristine beauty of lakes, forests and eagles flying overhead. Summer Camp is a new home with another family. But camp isn’t just any family or any home, Swift Nature Camp is a special Minnesota Camp.

This summer home is filled with acceptance, love, encouragement, and true, down to earth friends who you will end up calling your camp family. Your counselors act as parents, older siblings, etc. They are great people to look up to. The campers are great friends for life. You may even end up looking at them as siblings. Acceptance is everywhere, no one kicks you out of the cabin because of who you are. Your uniqueness is celebrated. This is the main reason why I love Swift Nature Camp…it’s so much more than just having fun.

Activities are everywhere at summer camp, there is so much to do. Here are just a few: Archery, Swimming, Fishing, Boating, Tubing, and Riflery. You are never bored and active all day long. The counselors help you get better regardless of that your skill level is. All activities are noncompetitive and so we all support each other, rather than worry who is best.

When I think of Swift, I think of trips. I’ll never forget the Superior Hiking Trail or going to Ely. What an adventure! I loved the trails, nature, and sights of the forest. It was fun getting to know the other persons that hike with you. The wildlife you see is extremely cool. We saw hawks, bald eagles, deer, ospreys, trout, and carp. This is why I love Minnesota Camps

Cabin life is all about learning about others. We come from all over America and even other countries, to meet at a Minnesota Summer Camp. In each cabin there are 10 campers and 2 very kind counselors. Our goal is to become a team for the 3 or 6 weeks we are there. Sure, we had our fights, but always they are resolved and we grow closer because of them.

The Nature Center is a great place to learn about Nature and the beautiful environment of the North woods. We always have fun this is not school. The animals in the zoo are fun to take care of, especially since my mom, back home, will only let me have a cat. It is kinda like being at an animal camp.

I plan on going back to Swift Nature Camp for all these reasons. If you come for just one summer, I know you will feel as I do. So, I’ll see yawl in the North woods of Minnesota this summer!

Children’s Summer Camps are recreational camps that are set up for kids and teenagers to keep them stimulated and active throughout their summer holidays in a safe and caring environment.

If you are planning to send your child to a summer camp or childrens camp, then you want to be sure that your children will get the most out of the experience and that they will be well cared for. When you send your child to summer camps you want them to have fun in a stimulating and nurturing environment.

Before choosing a summer camp for your children you should do some research and find out what the different options are in your area. Not all summer camps are created equal, some of them have better resources, activities and facilities than others.

The first thing to do when you are choosing childrens camp is to look at what you want your child to get from the experience. Do you want them to develop specific abilities such as sporting prowess, or are you looking to help them improve their self confidence or become more independent? By identifying the main thing you want your child to take from summer camp you will be a whole lot closer to finding the right summer camps.

Think specifically about your child’s interests and hobbies. A camp that has a range of activities that they like and are good at as well as new things to try strikes a great balance. It may be a good idea to look at some of the options with your child and let them choose which childrens camp appeals most to them.

If your child has specific medical needs, then you will have to ensure that the summer camp you choose is set up to accommodate their needs effectively. Most summer camps are very good at helping to meet special needs that children have, but if you are not 100 per cent comfident that your child will be totally safe and cared for, then it is best to keep looking at other summer camps.

Summer Kids Camps and childrens camp are a great way to get your children involved in a range of outdoor and cultural activities. It is a good way to improve your child’s self esteem and their confidence in themselves while meeting different people and broadening their horizons in a safe and caring environment. By thinking about your wishes, your child’s interests and needs you will find the best summer camp for them.

What is now being an issue in tourism talks is that gay tourists are thought as the potential market to contribute big revenue in today’s destination market. A few facts about gay tours to Switzerland may give you the idea of why this is so.

Switzerland is considered as one of the most spectacular countries in Europe. Although it may look a small country in the map, it surely possesses remarkable places to explore. No wonder why most tourists decide as to spending their holiday there. What is more surprising is the number of gay tourist also taking those special cruises especially intended for them. Indeed potential for generating revenue, isn’t it? They have that circle bus to depart from Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, Prague, Vienna and also Amsterdam. Pricing ranges only under $100.00 up to $3,000.00 and above.

Can you now conclude their population to be generating market revenue? That is the record for Switzerland tourism alone.

Some important landscapes can be seen in Switzerland. Like that Alps covered with snows, those villages in the side of the mountains, the picturesque of real beauty indeed including that pristine valleys. Oh! I think no one can resist its splendor. A trained tour guides who are also gays will clarify tourist about the Swiss culture and will lead them to great places which they craved for seeing.

Long gone were those days that gays would find it hard to travel just because they were judged for their kind of lifestyle. Gays are, in fact, no longer a stranger to the pride of traveling. They can now freely book a flight without someone, in the least, making judgment in their preferred sexes. Ask someone who have been to gay adventures and they will tell you about their joyful travel to different places. Read something about gay travels and you will see various choices where to go. It is even labeled as gay-friendly tours now.

Way back 1970s, the subject offers debatable issues whether the state should accept homosexuals without conflicts in law and wherein we should see them as normal individuals. And then they were justified for that anti-discriminatory law. However it will not surely warrant them that all of the people will treat them equally. Rejection will still be around as much as the rising of eyebrows in one room where they are there. From what we called norms of the society, gays still propose a seemingly doubtful image.

As such, they have opted for those gay vacations packages like that in Switzerland. Though this, gays can taste the word holiday rather than mere pronouncing it. What more could be nicer in a tour than being comfortable and to feel that you are safe with the same minded people like you do?

The result for their want of having their personal lives respected is this. It had offered them the freewill not to experience hardships of transferring from place to place. They will be guaranteeing their delight for what a vacation should be. Gay destinations to Switzerland won’t be a bad idea for a trip after all. In is in fact such a good idea to get away from your stresses sometimes.

The majority of visitors who vacation in Iceland do so to explore the diverse natural beauty that is truly unique when compared to other popular spots for gay vacations. From Europe’s largest glacier and vast volcanoes, to the barely populated Arctic Circle island of Grimsey and the Northern Lights, Iceland offers nearly limitless opportunities to explore the outdoors in an unprecedented way. Hiking, rafting, kayaking, ice climbing, whale watching, bird watching and sea fishing are just a few of the many popular outdoor activities that travelers enjoy during their stay in Iceland and are great options for gay tours filled with adventure.

Visitors who prefer an urban vacation will also find just what they are searching for in Iceland, especially in the capital city, Reykjavik, which is where individual travelers and folks traveling with gay tours will find a variety of historical and cultural attractions, dining and shopping, a beautiful waterfront, museums and an exciting nightlife.

Birdwatchers and nature lovers will also want to take a side trip to the small island of Grimsey, just 25 miles to the north. There is just one town on Grimsey, Sandvik, which is the northernmost settlement of Iceland and has a population of 150. The island is best known for the steep cliffs lining its shore and its abundance of bird colonies, both of which are popular draws for folks on gay vacations to Iceland. Lucky visitors might also catch a glimpse of polar bears, which sometimes show up on the shores of Grimsey after drifting on ice from Greenland.

Whether travelers come to Grimsey on gay tours or on individual treks, they will not want to forget to get a certificate stating that they have crossed the Arctic Circle while they are there. Those looking for outdoor gay travel adventures might also want to venture to Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier, or one of the other glaciers that cover more than 10% of Iceland, for ice climbing and plenty of photo opportunities.

There are also numerous waterfalls and awe-inspiring cliffs throughout the country, offering a wide variety of hiking, outdoor adventure and picture-taking opportunities. Visitors will not want to miss Videy Island, a small island just moments from the shore where travelers will find various sculptural art pieces and Iceland’s oldest stone building.

The time of year chosen for gay vacations to Iceland is an important factor in determining which of the country’s natural phenomena you will experience during your trip: the Polar Nights, Midnight Sun or Northern Lights.

But, regardless of when you choose to plan your gay travel to Iceland, gay vacations are not complete without a dip in the world-famous Blue Lagoon, just 45 minutes outside of Reykjavik, where visitors will find a pool of fluorescent blue, geothermal seawater enclosed by black lava rocks.
