What You Need To Know Before You Go

« How Does Car Rental Companies Work?   How To Get Flights to Madrid »

Last spring I went to Miami for a large electronic music festival they have there every year. The first step is usually to look for plane tickets and figure out \”is this doable\” in terms of making it down there from NYC. I never thought that this year I would discover a place better than some high-end resorts!

After you get your flight booked, while youare still putting off paying for your event tickets (which you should get during the presale so you donat end up kicking yourself for having to pay $30 extra), you need to figure out where youare going to stay.

The first time I went, I waited until there were only two weeks left, and every place I called was fully booked already. I ended up finding a place in Hialeah through an agent. I thought I would be able to walk there from the event, but it ended up being more than a half hour drive and in a bad area of town, so I eventually had to call a cab to get me back to my room.

So this time, I decided not to wait until the last minute (I stilled missed buying my tickets on presale however), especially since my girlfriend was going to go with me. I began looking with two full months left before the event, since I didnat think my girlfriend really needed to see the part of Miami that looked more like Cuba than the well-known resort city.

But my search for a hotel boasted no affordable options. Searching online, \”Hotel Miami\” came up with everything on the priceline of $250/night and up, but I did actually consider the hotel suite for $500, the \”if you’re going to do it, do it right\” mentality hinting in…

Then a brainstorm hit me, and I searched with the keywords, aBed and Breakfast Miami.a My search return several results, and one even had a link to the official B and B website. I dialed the office number listed and listened as they described how their set up worked. I immediately reserved a room, and the weekend was settled. The place I booked was fairly inexpensive, and it was also within walking distance to downtown and the train station that took us back to the airport.

It was a great discovery, and the best thing about the bed and breakfast was the fantastic customer service. Practically at the last minute, I decided to take my brother with us to Miami, so I emailed the Band B to let them know what the situation was and that we would have somebody else staying in the room, probably on the floor or something.

About a week later, I got a return email from the owner saying, aSince your brother will be coming with you, we have upgraded you to an apartment suite.a Although we were expecting to receive an enormous charge for this fantastic upgrade, the B and B only charged us $10 extra for a full-size apartment, complete with kitchen and living room. That kind of service is practically unheard of at any hotel chain Iave ever been to!

And so, after a long travel day and a night out dancing, we slept great and the next morning ate cereal, fruit, and banana bread under the palm trees before heading off to another 24-hour straight celebration. In my opinion, this so-called Bed and Breakfast was at the caliber of high-end resorts, with an unforgettable personal touch and at an awesome price!
