Wine tours have long been popular excursions for wine lovers and those who enjoy beautiful, lush scenery. But no longer will you need to travel to France or Napa Valley for a wine tour getaway, as specialty wine trails in just about every state are catering to wine travel fans. The United States has over 6000 wineries, with at least one in every state. Many states boast specialty wine regions, with clusters of wineries grouped together in close proximity for an ideal weekend getaway.
Many small independent wineries have found grape growing conditions ideal in select geographic areas around the country. More and more of these wineries are being recognized for prestigious wine awards at national tastings and competitions. It’s a fun and fascinating experience to see these wineries up close and personal, perhaps even rubbing shoulders and sharing a glass with the wine makers.

Over 135 years ago, many German-Swiss immigrants traveled well into the south central United States to stake their claim. And back in the 1870’s, the beautiful Ozark Mountain area of northwestern Arkansas seemed an appropriate place to begin. Rolling mountains, while not quite the height or splendor of the Swiss Alps, offered a reminder of home.
And so, a large German-Swiss settlement blossomed in the west/northwest area of Arkansas, “The Natural State”. Now, almost a century and a half later, this European influence is still felt in a unique area of the state, roughly between Little Rock in the state’s center and Fort Smith, at its’ western boundary. Not far off of Interstate I-40, about 50 minutes east of Fort Smith, you’ll find Arkansas Wine Country.

Viales Valley is one of the most recognized and demanded area among holiday makers in Cuba. It is the combination of so many things what makes this territory so attractive. It is known for growing the best tobacco in the world. Its residents are among the friendliest and welcoming people I have ever come across in Cuba. The best of all is its natural beauty, its mountains, valleys, rivers, rain forests and cave formations.
Today I would like to write about and amazing cave formation in Viales: La Cueva del Indio. This cave is part of a cavern system considered the largest in Latin America. You can visit this cave on a tour that is divided on two parts. First you walk along very constricted passages and slippery floor for about 10 minutes and then you find a under ground river along which you will get a ride on a boat until you reach the other end of the cave.
